The Windmill

Contractors working on the new housing etate on the old cricket pitch have uncovered the double brick circular base of the Spondon Windmill. This has satisfactorily settled a disagreement as to where the mill actually stood. Some people said it was where the electricity sub-station is now. They have been proved wrong: it was between the square and Locko Road. The pavilion and houses on Royal Hill Road can just be seen at the top of the photograph.
