Spondon House Preparatory School Prospectus

View from cricket field.

David Hebden, who has worked on Rugby Fives Association archives, writes that fives is an old game, dating back to 16th century but with similar hand ball type games being much earlier. Part of his work is maintaining a census of fives places, past and present, around the world. He came across the Spondon House Prep School photo recently so has added these courts to his list. It was not a surprise because it seems that most Prep schools of that sort of age had fives courts. A lot of these courts would be 3-Wall but it is pretty clear from the photo that the courts at Spondon House were 4-Wall, i.e. there is a back wall.
