The Man on the left was one
The Man on the left was one of our woodwork teachers at Spondon House, think his name was Mr Hinkley, next to him is Mr Bell who was Headmaster at same school.
THE SMARTLY DRESSED LADY IN
THE SMARTLY DRESSED LADY IN THE CENTRE OF THE GROUP COMPLETE WITH HANDBAG AND GLOVES IS MY LATE MOTHER, GERTY HANCOCKS (NEE GRUNDY)WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THE PARISH COUNCIL OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS.THERE ARE TWO OTHER WELL KNOWN LOCALS,CYRIL UFTON, THE BESPECTACLED GENT IMMEDIATELY TO MY MOTHERS' LEFT AND BOB NEWTON,SMALL GENT FOURTH FROM THE RIGHT IN THE GROUP. BOTH WERE ACTIVE PARISH POLITICIANS.
IT COULD WELL HAVE BEEN A PARISH COUNCIL VISIT TO SPONDON HOUSE SCHOOL.
The white haired gentleman
The white haired gentleman 2nd left is Mr Bell who was headmaster at Spondon House Secondary school when I was there from 1962 - 1966. I don't know any other faces though or the year, but Mr Bell looks exactly the same as he did in those years!
I recognise Mr Bell, Cyril
I recognise Mr Bell, Cyril Ufton, Bob Newton and Mrs Hancocks.
The photo looks to be taken at the entrance to the Village Hall, perhaps the occasion could be something around the school woodwork classes making something, perhaps the notice board behind the group.
Dave Trigg.
Fourth from the left Sam
Fourth from the left Sam Blood our neighbour in Borrowash Road - cyclist reputed to have once beaten Reg Harris.
Fifth from the left with plaid tie Mr Riley, leader of the Tories.
The lady in the white hat with badge of office is, I think, Sylvia Turner, WI President. Her badge was made by Alfie Aston in memory of his wife Florence. Alfie was a craftsman who was reputed to be able to split hairs (literally!).
